The partnership uses crash figures to help it work out where to concentrate its efforts. Below are details of the partnership's priority areas and why they were chosen.
A full breakdown of the Derby and Derbyshire crash figures for 2008 and 2009 are in the related documents section.
Partnership priority areas
Motorcyclists
Almost a third of the 566 people killed or badly hurt on Derbyshire’s roads last year were riders or their passengers. The number of motorcyclists killed or badly hurt in the county rose from 128 in 2008 to 170 in 2009.
Young drivers
More than a quarter of the deaths and serious injuries on the county’s roads last year were the result of a crash that involved a young driver.
Work-related driving
Almost a fifth of the people killed or badly hurt on Derbyshire roads last year were driving for work or commuting.
Drink and drug driving
One in 25 of the crashes on the county’s roads last year involved someone who was driving over the limit or refused to be breath tested.
Children (0 to 15 years)
Forty five of the people killed or badly hurt on Derbyshire roads last year were aged 15 years or under.
Drug driving is difficult to prove and thought to be under recorded nationally. Anecdotal evidence suggests that it is an increasing problem, particularly among drivers between 17 and 25 years old.
