The partnership uses crash figures to help it work out where to concentrate its efforts. Below are details of the partnership's priority areas and why they were chosen.
A full breakdown of the Derby and Derbyshire crash figures for 2008 are contained in the related documents section at the bottom of this page. Figures for 2009 will be available shortly.
Partnership priority areas
Motorcyclists
Almost a quarter of the people killed or seriously injured on our roads in 2008 were motorcycle riders or their passengers.
Young drivers
Nearly a fifth of the people killed or seriously injured on our roads last year were car drivers aged between 17 and 25 or their passengers.
Work-related driving
Nearly a quarter of the people killed or seriously injured on our roads in 2008 were driving for work or commuting.
Children (0 to 15 years)
In 2008, 1 child was killed, 46 were seriously injured and 330 were slightly injured in crashes on our roads.
Drink and drug driving
One in 25 of the crashes on our roads last year resulted in someone testing positive in a roadside breath test or refusing to provide a sample.
Drug driving is difficult to prove and thought to be under recorded nationally. Anecdotal evidence suggests that it is an increasing problem, particularly among drivers between 17 and 25 years old.
