Overview
Below are details of the deaths and injuries that occurred on roads in the partnership area in 2010:
The 2010 figures are the lowest for 30 years. The number of people killed or badly hurt fell from 566 in 2009 to 410 in 2010. A full breakdown of the crash figures for 2010 are in the related documents section at the bottom of the page.
Priorities
The partnership uses crash figures to help it work out where to concentrate its efforts. Below are details of the partnership's priority areas and why they were chosen.
Motorcyclists
Almost a quarter of the people killed or badly hurt on partnership roads in 2010 were riders or their passengers.
Young drivers
In 2010, almost 30 per cent of crashes in the partnership area that resulted in a death or serious injury involved a young driver.
Work-related driving
Almost 20 per cent of the people killed or badly hurt on partnership roads in 2010 were driving for work or commuting.
Drink and drug driving
In 2010, one in 24 of the crashes on partnership roads involved someone who was driving over the limit or refused to be breath tested. Drug driving is difficult to prove and thought to be under recorded nationally. Anecdotal evidence suggests that it is an increasing problem, particularly among drivers between 17 and 25 years old.
Children (0 to 15 years)
Forty-eight of the people killed or badly hurt on partnership roads in 2010 were aged 15 years or under.
