Road safety for motorists

Here are some tips to help you drive safely on our roads.

Do:

  • Plan your route in advance to avoid stress – check for congestion and adjust your journey time accordingly.

  • Drive to the road conditions – driving at the speed limit may not always be safe.

  • Take care at junctions - be patient and wait for an appropriate gap in traffic.

  • Keep your distance from other vehicles.

  • Be patient when overtaking.

  • Wear your seatbelt and make sure that passengers do too - except for babies and young children who should be fastened in a properly fitted car seat appropriate for their age group and build.

Don't:

  • Drink and drive.

  • Use a hand held mobile phone while driving.

  • Overtake on solid white lines.

  • Drive when you are tired.
