The number of people killed or badly hurt on the roads covered by Derby and Derbyshire Road Safety Partnership has fallen by almost ten per cent.
Partnership manager Robert Hill said: "By working together, we have helped to reduce the number of deaths and serious injuries on the roads in our area from 597 in 2007 to 538 in 2008.
"The number of motorcyclists killed or badly hurt dropped by almost a third during this period – a bigger fall than those recorded for any other road user group. We believe this is thanks, in part, to a campaign we ran during last year's leisure biking season warning bikers not to caught caught out by difficult roads, speed cameras and extra police patrols in the Derbyshire countryside."
Robert added: " The latest figures are encouraging – but we are not complacent. One casualty is one too many so we will continue to explore new ways of keeping people safe on our roads."
