25 August 2009
Motorcyclists headed to Matlock Bath last weekend for Bike Plus 2009.
Organised by Derby and Derbyshire Road Safety Partnership, the festival on Sunday 23 August offered visitors to the Derwent Gardens the opportunity to admire the latest machines, test their skills on a motorbike simulator and pick up a free copy of The Bikers' Guide to Derbyshire 2009.
They also learnt about cut-price training and enjoyed a virtual tour of the nation's best roads by watching Highways Agency movie Great Roads Great Rides 2.
CMC Motorcycles, Triumph World, Pidcocks and Bob Minion were among the Derbyshire motorcycle dealers exhibiting bikes at the event.
Andy Adlington, motorcycle project officer for the road safety partnership, said: "Bikers are drawn to our countryside because it offers great rides – but too many of them are running into trouble. Bike Plus 2009 gave us the opportunity to talk to motorcyclists about their experiences on Derbyshire's roads."
Andy added: "Many visitors picked up a free copy of our booklet - The Bikers' Guide to Derbyshire 2009 - which gives details of cut-price training and advice about how to survive the roads where motorcyclists are running into trouble."
