The simulated rescues will show how firefighters, police and paramedics work together to save injured people who are trapped in a car.
Dave Stevenson, red watch manager at Ilkeston Fire Station, said: “The scenarios for the demonstrations will be as close to real life as possible. The ‘collision’ will have been caused by a drunk driver.
“The aim is to shock members of the public, especially young people, and make them consider what could happen if they consent to travel with a driver who has had too much to drink and loses control.”
The simulated rescues will take place at 11am and 2pm. Between 10am and 4pm, visitors to the marketplace will be able to get information and advice from Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service, Derbyshire police, East Midlands Ambulance Service, Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance Service, Neighbourhood Watch, Erewash Community Safety Partnership and the road safety partnership’s CREST team (formerly the safety camera team).
