Motorcycle festival comes to Matlock Bath

25 June 2010

Motorcyclists from across Derbyshire are invited to celebrate the art of motoring on two wheels at Bike Plus 2010.

Organised by Derby and Derbyshire Road Safety Partnership, the event on Sunday 4 July will offer visitors to Matlock Bath the opportunity to admire some of the latest machines and pick up a free copy of The Bikers’ Guide to Derbyshire 2010. They will also be able to learn about discounted training and test their skills on a motorbike simulator.

CMC Chesterfield, Triumph World and Bob Minion Ltd are among the Derbyshire motorcycle dealers who will be exhibiting bikes at the event.

Partnership chairman Mike Ashworth said: “Bikers are drawn to the Derbyshire countryside because it offers great rides – but too many of them are running into trouble.  We want bikers to enjoy our countryside year after year rather than leaving in an ambulance or a hearse.”

The bikers’ guide is a free pocket-sized booklet containing advice from the partnership about how to survive the 13 countryside routes where bikers are regularly running into trouble.

Also included in the guide is an application form for Bike Plus, a cut-price rider development course offered by Derbyshire County Council.  This type of training usually costs around £150 but the county council subsidy means that bikers living in Derbyshire and neighbouring counties can enrol for just £50.

Staff from the partnership’s member organisations will be on hand at the event to talk to visitors about staying safe on the roads.

Bike Plus 2010  is taking place in the Pavilion car park at Matlock Bath and will be open between 11am and 4pm. Admission is free.
